Stadsjochies in the spotlight at VisitNetherlands!
10/11/25
We are proud that VisitNetherlands recently visited us to make a short documentary series about Dutch gastronomy. Because fair is fair: Dutch cuisine is SO much more than poffertjes and pancakes.
In three beautiful videos, they show how we are working towards a new dining experience: one in which taste, sustainability and connection to where our food comes from are central.
Where vegetables and stories grow
In the first video, we take you into our story: what it is like to grow in the middle of the city. Among the greenhouses, vegetables and smells grow not only products, but also stories. We show that sustainable growing and enjoying good food can go hand in hand, even in an urban environment.
It is extraordinary to see how Utrecht, with its creative, green character, offers a place where innovation and community come together. And that does not go unnoticed: Utrecht was recently named one of the ‘Best in Travel 2026’ destinations by Lonely Planet! A city full of flavour, purity and tranquillity, exactly the ingredients we try to let our guests taste and experience every day.
From greenhouse to kitchen in a few steps
In our greenhouse, the distance from garden to plate is literally a few steps. Here, our chef and the grower work side by side. We learn from each other, taste together, and seek the perfect balance between flavour and freshness every day. When is the product ready to be harvested, at its best.
At Stadsjochies, it's all about trust and craftsmanship. The vegetables grow next to the kitchen and you can taste it. The smell of fresh herbs, the crunch of freshly harvested leaves, the interplay between soil and dish: this is Utrecht gastronomy at its purest.
A greenhouse that grows more than vegetables
The third video focuses on our innovative greenhouse, where sustainability is key. Thanks to natural ventilation (heat recovery system), the indoor climate remains pleasant, even during dinner. And with solar panels, composting and bokashi hops, we try to get one step closer to fully circular business every day.
Nothing goes to waste here, even leftovers get a second life. It's our way of showing that sustainable eating doesn't have to be complicated, as long as you do it with love and respect for the earth.
'The taste of Utrecht'
We are proud that VisitNetherlands has chosen our place to showcase the richness of Dutch gastronomy. What we do in our greenhouse in Utrecht is actually an ode to Dutch soil: full of character, purity, innovation and connection.
So whether you come from near or far: come taste, discover and experience how the Netherlands and Utrecht in particular grows, cooks and tastes. That's what we call ‘The taste of real’.
