Urban kitchen gardens project at Stadsjochies

19/02/25

Do you dream of growing vegetables, flowers and herbs in the middle of the city? Good news! At Stadsjochies, we are proud to make a large plot of land available to anyone in Utrecht who would like to manage a city vegetable garden. With this initiative, we want to create a green, inspiring place where gardening not only contributes to your own well-being, but also to a sustainable and engaged community.

Green together: gardening for biodiversity and connection

Our urban kitchen garden is much more than a place to plant and harvest. It is an initiative focused on biodiversity, health and social connection. By gardening together, we work towards a greener city and a closer community.

What makes our project so special?

  • Biodiversity and Green Space
We plant native flowers and plants to support biodiversity and attract pollinators. We also create accessible green spaces where everyone can enjoy nature.
  • Education and awareness
Weekly workshops and educational sessions help participants learn sustainable gardening practices and better understand the importance of greenery in the city.
  • Community and Cooperation
Our kitchen garden is an inclusive place where different groups, including people reintegrating after burnout, come together. Volunteers, joint harvest days and events create a close-knit community.
  • Health and wellness
Gardening promotes physical activity, relaxation and a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, we offer therapeutic gardening activities for recovery and mental well-being.

Green together!
