What do you get when you combine the first rays of spring sunshine with more than 91 special wines, passionate winemakers and Utrecht's most beautiful urban farming site? Right, an unforgettable afternoon and evening at Stadsjochies during our annual Spring Tasting in collaboration with Henri Bloem.
Tasting, talking and enjoying in the spring sunshine
From 15:00 to 18:00, our grounds opened up to more than 320 enthusiastic guests, all armed with their own wine glass, a tasting list and looking forward to a delicious afternoon. Between the greenhouses and kitchen garden beds, there were no fewer than nine wine stands, with representatives from Portugal, Italy, Germany and Spain, among others. Four winemakers were present in person to talk enthusiastically about their wines, stories of terroir, tradition and passion flowing as richly as the wine itself.
Whether you were a fan of fresh white wines or sought the depth of a hearty red, there was something for everyone. With the handy tasting list, you could keep track of exactly which wines tickled your taste buds the most, handy for when you wanted to order another bottle (or box) later.
Local delicacies & good company
Wine tasting is, of course, only really complete with a good bite to go with it. That is why Oudwijker cheeses and fresh bread from the Bakkert were on hand to pamper your taste buds. Between sips, you could browse the stands, catch up with other enthusiasts or chat with a wine connoisseur. It was a cosy, relaxed and tasteful atmosphere befitting exactly the beginning of spring.
Spring dinner as icing on the cake
For those who did not want to go home yet (and let's be honest, who wants to after an afternoon like this?), the programme was followed by a culinary highlight: the Spring Dinner. An extensive four-course menu, completely inspired by the season. Think homemade ricotta, a soft asparagus cream soup and other surprising spring dishes, of course perfectly paired with matching wines from Henri Bloem. Everything was included, including a tasty amuse bouche and fine service.
